Silk Cigarette Card

Silk 'cards' were introduced into cigarette packs around 1910 and were popular during World War One. This one shows the two badges of the 14th Hussars; the principal badge of the Royal crest dating from 1830 and the Prussian Eagle, or Hawk, dating from 1798 when Princess Frederike, Duchess of York became the honorary colonel of the 14th Light Dragoons. She was the daughter of King Frederick of Prussia and granddaughter of Frederick the Great. The Royal crest has the lion standing on the King's crown that was used on the crest and other badges from 1901 to 1952.
