Officer’s Lance Cap Plate c1850

Officers wore lance caps embellished with a front plate in gilt and silver whereas the other ranks had brass cap plates. This early Victorian cap plate is clearly identified as 17th Lancers because of the deaths head and motto, placed below the Royal Arms. There were no battle honours at this stage as the first honours awarded to the regiment were for battles fought in the Crimean War.
