Trumpeter and Other Ranks 1896

The boy trumpeter is in dismounted stable dress and plays a cavalry trumpet festooned with cords and tassels in the royal colours of red, yellow and blue. His pill-box forage cap is white with a red cap-band, a traditional distinction for musicians of the 17th that can be seen in the Ebsworth sketch of 1853. The others are a corporal and three privates doing guard duty at Hounslow Barracks. The photo was published in the Navy & Army Illustrated, 20 March 1896. The caption says that at the time of publication the regiment was quartered at Leeds. The pillars in the background match those in the Wymer illustration of 1888.
