5th Dragoon Guards

Corporal Alexander Hyam DCM

Corporal Alexander Hyam won the Distinguished Conduct Medal for his bravery whilst serving with C Troop of the Heavy Camel Regiment at Abu Klea on 17th Jan 1885. He was presented with his medal by the Queen at Windsor Castle on 23rd Feb 1886. His DCM medal is on the right, after his Egypt and Sudan medal. Some years later it was decided that gallantry awards should take precedence over campaign medals. On his left forearm are a good conduct stripe and marksman's badge.
