5th Dragoon Guards

Drumhorse 1912

The photo shows the other side of the 1908 drumhorse depicted by Simkin. The drum banner is crimson while the shabraque is blue with gold embroidery. The lettering can be read on the banner and the red velvet backing appears to be showing signs of wear and age. One difference between this and the Simkin picture is the use of stirrup reins. The drummer's tunic has a crossed bugle badge on his upper arm which means that he is a trumpeter rather than a band musician.
