Henry Gerard Hegan Kennard


Colonel Henry Gerard Hegan Kennard was born on 28 March 1871. He was the son of Adam Steinmetz Kennard, who was High Sheriff of Hampshire, and Grace Ellen Hegan. He married Nancy Poyser, daughter of Colonel R. Poyser on 15 January 1895. They had a son who died in 1918 aged 22, and two daughters. He was educated at Eton and Sandhurst. He was Lieutenant-Colonel and Brevet-Colonel of the 5th Dragoon Guards which he commanded from 1907 to 1911. He was commander of the Dublin Garrison between 1915 and 1918. Henry Kennard died in March 1946 at Paddington, aged 74. The photo shows him in the dress uniform of the 5th DG with medals for the Boer War.
