5th Dragoon Guards

The First Standards 1685

The Windsor Colour Book of 1685-86 shows three Troop Standards for each regiment of Horse although the regiment had 6 Troops. The Earl of Shrewsbury's Regiment had a Colonel's Standard of yellow silk damask with fringe and tassels of silver and yellow. In the centre was a silver lion rampant, the charge on the coat armour of the Talbot family. The other Standards were plain yellow. They were 2'6" wide by 2'3" deep.
