5th Dragoon Guards

Regimental Standard 1823

The guidon was not officially discontinued until 1844 but this standard proves that the 5th Dragoon Guards had decided to ignore the order to carry the swallow-tailed dragoon flag. It is of green damask to match the regimental facings. The number 3 at the base of the flag is for the 3rd Squadron. The central device is the cypher of Princess Charlotte inside a circle with the regimental title, and her coronet above instead of the royal crown.
