5th Dragoon Guards

William Cadogan, 1st Earl Cadogan KT

William Cadogan was The Duke of Marlborough's right-hand man through most of the campaign in the War of the Spanish Succession. He was Quartermaster-General for the march to the Danube, being one of the few people entrusted with Marlborough's secret intentions. He was responsible for the effective supply and organisation of the march. He commanded the advance guard in the breakthrough of Villiers' lines of Ne Plus Ultra. When Marlborough was dismissed and went into exile he stayed with him and acted as go-between to maintain links with people in Britain.
