Officer's Sabretache Badge 1872-1879

Up until c1872 the officers, and other ranks, of the 7th Dragoon Guards wore a plain black undress sabretache but around that date they adopted this badge which neatly illustrated their unofficial name of The Black Horse. Queen Victoria's gilt crown tops a laurel wreath with silver scrolls and number 7. The running black horse is painted with black japan. Strangely it only lasted a few years.
