Officer's Sabretache Badge 1879-1901

This plain cypher and coronet replaced the black horse badge around 1879. The coronet (not a crown) was that of Princess Charlotte, eldest daughter of George III. The cypher is PRDG for Princess Royals Dragoon Guards. This device appears in many paintings, prints and photos of officers, while the former badge is nowhere to be found. The sabretache was discontinued by the army in 1901.
