Bernard R Dietz

Bernard Dietz joined the regiment in 1886 after his Sandhurst training. In May 1906 Major Dietz distinguished himself at the Royal Naval and Military Tournament at Olympia. He won three sword skills competitions, Sword v Sword, Sword v Lance, and The Navy and Army Championship for Sword v Sword. This was the first time that all three events had been won by the same contestant in the same year. At the time he was second in command of the 7th DG. The following year, on 18th March 1907 he was promoted to Lieutenant-Colonel and was given command of the regiment. In Sept 1908 he took the regiment to Cairo for a two year posting, and then on to India in Oct 1910.
