General Meinhardt Schomberg KG


Born on 30th June 1641, Meinhardt was the third son of the famous General Frederick Schomberg who commanded William III's army against James in Ireland. The old Duke died at the battle of the Boyne. At that battle, Meinhardt commanded the cavalry on the right wing, including his own regiment which he had taken over from Lord Cavendish in April 1690. He was a more diligent Colonel than his predecessor. He became Duke of Leinster in 1692 and the 3rd Duke of Schomberg in 1693. He died on 5th July 1719.
