Standards c1860

New Standards were received in June 1853 and the CO sent one of the old ones to Major-General Lord Sandys who was appointed Colonel of the 7th DG in that year. This drawing was made from observation by Ebsworth, perhaps before 1860 but no earlier than 1856. A dismounted Troop Sergeant-Major holds the Queen's or First Standard which is crimson with a central device of the letters VII DG. The details are sketchy but the TSM wears a broad gold-laced Standard belt and the top of the pike is spear-shaped. The other Standard carried by a mounted TSM is visible behind the bandsman who has a white plume on his helmet. This is in black damask and is unclear, but there is a suggestion in the way it is drawn that it is a Guidon, not a Standard.
