7th Hussars

String and Wind Band 1932

The top photo shows the string band at Aldershot in 1932. The bandmaster wears a double-breasted frock-coat and scarlet forage cap. The rest of the band are in the full dress tunic and forage cap with white leather pouch-belts. The band sergeant sits the other side of the time-beater's drum with a clarinet. The long silver trumpet is displayed on the tubular bells above the drum. The banner now has 12 battle honours as do the two identical kettle drum banners. There is a xylophone on the right of the photo, and two snare drums with cymbals in the middle. This is a string instrument band with two double basses, 2 cellos, 8 violins. The lower photo was taken on the same day and shows the wind band.
