7th Hussars

Cap Badge

This pattern was worn by officers and other ranks on field service caps and by other ranks as a collar badge. The crown on the top of the badge is reminiscent of the Hanoverian Guelphic crown but is more likely to represent a coronet which would connect the regiment to the original Queen of the 7th, Queen Carolina, wife of George II. She became Queen in 1727 but was already the honorary head of the 7th Dragoons as Princess Wilhemena Carolina, since 1715. It is not a Queen's crown that could be connected to Victoria. The cypher in the middle is in silver, or white metal and incorporates two old style Qs (one reversed) that are shaped like the number 2, and an O. Badges of the 7th worn after c1902 had the King's Crown, in line with other regimental badges.
