NCO's Arm Badgee

The silver arm badge was worn by NCOs after 1867. Before that an embroidered version was sewn on the tunic and stable jacket. The badge is an Irish harp which is based on a figure of the Maid of Erin. This example has the Queen's crown on top so was in use between 1867 and 1901. It is of hallmarked silver, worn by a senior NCO. The more junior NCOs had white metal or silver plated badges. In the 1870s the badge was worn on the chevrons but by the 1880s it was worn on the space above the chevrons. Photos reveal that it was worn on the dress tunic, stable jacket, frock, white foreign service uniform and khaki service dress.
