7th Armoured Brigade, Formation Badge 1940

The 7th Armoured Brigade was formed in 1940 in the 7th Armoured Division. The 8th Hussars was a founder member of the Division and it's soldiers were called Desert Rats. The badge was instigated by Major-General P C S Hobart and depicts a Desert Jerboa which is a small nocturnal creature that leaps on strong hind legs. The 7th Armoured Brigade was sent from North Africa to Burma in 1942 and adopted a similar badge but in green. The Desert Rat badge was re-introduced in 1991 for the British troops serving in the Gulf War. The badge measures 5x6 cm.
