Sabretache 1823

The first pattern sabretache for officers of the newly converted 8th Hussars had a red cloth face with silver lace surround, in the broken bias and vellum pattern. The double royal cypher, for George IV was also in silver but the Royal Crest was in gold embroidery, as was the harp and most of the five-hooped crown at the top. The harp had silver strings and there was a gold VIII above it. The lettering on the scrolls reads THE KING'S ROYAL on the left side. And IRISH HUSSARS on the right. The battle honours for Hindoostan and Leswarree were awarded on 14th March 1825 but were not put on the sabretache until 1855.
