Sabretache 1855-1861

The uniforms of the British army changed radically in 1855. The Crimean War had proved the unsuitability of the heavily braided and tight fitting hussar jacket. The new uniform required a change in the sabretache which, in the 8th Hussars, now had a narrow gold lace edge, of shamrock pattern, but only covering three sides. The overall effect was not as pleasing as before because too much red background showed through.
