2nd Lieutenant Eric Weldon

Eric George Weldon was awarded the bronze medal by the Royal Humane Society for attempting to save the life of a drowning trooper in India. On 30th October 1912 one of the 8th Hussar's men, Private J Hague show signs of distress while swimming. Lieutenant Weldon ran to the river in his uniform and plunged into the water with boots, belts and clothing and swam towards the drowning man. He was unable to save him and Lieutenant A C Curell, who later became CO of the 8th, tried to retrieve the body. He was given the Society's testimonial on Vellum for his efforts.

This photo was taken in 1906. Weldon is in levee dress, wearing a black armband for mourning. The uniform has no sabretache as this was abolished in 1902.
