Corporal Anthony Duncan

Tony Duncan is photographed inside a Mastiff at the Forward Operating Base Price in Afghanistan. He was taking part in a foot patrol through the city of As-Samawah, midway between Baghdad and Basra, with 7 others on 15th Sep 2005 when a bullet tore through his left thigh. He thought he had been rugby tackled at first but then realised that he couldn't feel his leg. He was taken to an American military hospital for the first of 11 separate operations to rectify his shattered femur and torn muscle. The exit wound took two years, at Headley Court military rehabilitation centre, to put right. He had a pin inserted but ended up with one leg shorter than the other. In Jan 2009 he rejoined his regiment for their 6 month tour of duty in Helmand Province, Afghanistan. He was initially offered 9,250 pounds compensation but on appeal a tribunal decided to increase it to 46,000 pounds. The Ministry of Defence is challenging this.
