Lieutenant Richard Worsley




Lieutenant Richard Worsley, aged 24, was killed in a car accident near his army training camp in North Germany on 25th Nov 1996. Shortly after midnight the car, driven by Lieutenant Sebastian Partington, aged 25, crashed into a tree as they were coming off the ring road at Bergen-Hohne. Sebastian, also an officer in the Light Dragoons, was also killed. Richard was the son of Oliver Worsley and grandson of the late Sir William Worsley of Hovingham Hall, brother of the Duchess of Kent. His mother, Penelope is a member of the Fuller brewery family from London. Richard had joined the army in 1990 after leaving Uppingham School in Leicestershire. He had served in Bosnia and had been in Germany for two years. Major Marcus Browell said: 'They were both excellent officers, popular with the soldiers and officers alike, and were at the beginning of promising careers.'
