Queen's Royal Hussars

Lance-Corporal Piper, Full Dress c2004

The Irish piper is a lance-corporal but because of a regimental custom he was two stripes instead of one. The Irish connection comes from the 8th King's Royal Irish Hussars lineage. The distinctive uniform of the piper bears no resemblance to any other uniform in the regiment. The colour of the kilt is described as saffron and his beret is called a caubeen.
