Mounted Officer 1919

This wonderful painting by Alfred Munnings was painted in 1919 and shows the colour of the service dress uniform very well. The sword scabbard is secured to the rear of the saddle and he has leather wallets at the front. The brown leather riding boots are fitted with spurs and he has pale jodhpurs with a khaki tunic. The rank badges are shown on the shoulder straps whereas the earlier WW1 service dress had them on each cuff. The rider is Sir Eric Bonham and the horse is Grey Lady which was one of only eight officer's chargers to survive the 1914-18 war and come home safely.
