Field Service Marching Order, Near Side 1930

The trooper of 1930 viewed from the near side looks less encumbered than his 1918 counterpart. The sword is still part of his equipment despite the technological advances in 20th century weaponry. At the back of the saddle there appears to be a rolled up waterproof coat or poncho, and behind the sword a bag of oats for the horse. He has a water-bottle strapped high under his arm which would keep it secure when the horse is galloping, but surely make it inaccessible for a thirsty rider.
