Lieutenant-Colonel Alexander George Jeffrey Readman DSO


Alexander George Jeffrey Readman was born c1912, the son of Colonel John Jeffrey Readman who commanded the Scots Greys c1925. Alexander was better known as Tim. He served throughout World War 2, and was decorated with the DSO, and from the Dutch he received the Knight Officer of the Order of Oranje Nassau with Swords, in 1946. He was also an accomplished athlete. He lived at Broadholm, Lockerbie, Dumfriesshire. Another address given was The Old Rectory, Fairstead, Essex. He was married with one known son, Colonel Alexander George Jeremy Readman. He was appointed Colonel of the Scots Greys on 1 Jan 1968. The London Gazette announced his appointment referring to him as 'Major (Hon Lt-Col)'. The photo was taken on 24 Jan 1931. He died 6 Aug 1973 in Chelmsford, Essex.
