White Horse Badge c1845

The Scots Greys made alterations to the bearskin in the 1840s. The front plate was dispensed with in 1842, then the plume was discontinued in 1843. The size of the cap was reduced at this time and in 1845 the plume was reinstated but an upright plume 9 ins high. In the same year the regiment adopted the White Horse of Hanover on the back of the cap. This in fact was a revival of a similar White Horse badge worn on the red circular part on the back of the fur cap during the Waterloo period. Also in 1845 a metal grenade badge was worn on the front of the bearskin.
