Lance Corporal Vile and Trumpeters 1904

The trumpeters pose with the embroidered trumpet banners attached to silver trumpets. Standing in the middle is the kettle-drummer, Lance-Corporal Vile, sporting his Queen's and King's South Africa medals. His caparisoned kettle-drums are arranged either side of the snare and bass drum. They all wear Eagle badges on their collars, introduced c1902, and have yellow cord aiguillettes on their left shoulders. The special musician-pattern pill-box caps have yellow zig-zag bands and a brass grenade badge on the front. The top of the cap is decorated with a yellow button and braid figuring. The pill-box was replaced by the Broderick cap c1903 so this is one of the last occasions that they would be worn.
