Boy Trumpeters, India 1924

Young boys, invariably the sons of soldiers in the regiment, were employed as trumpeters and musicians in the band. These boys wear the khaki service dress for hot climates in India, where the Greys served from 1922 to 1927. The regiment wore white hackles in their Wolseley sun helmets but the band and trumpeters wore red hackles. The photos of that time still showed yellow as black, as with the yellow cord aiguillettes seen here.
