Band in India 1924

After the First World War the Scots Greys went overseas, to Egypt in 1920 and on to Palestine in 1921, followed by a tour of duty in India from 1922. They were at first at Risalpur, then in 1925 moved to Meerut. This photo of the band was taken at Risalpur in 1924. The drumhorse was a local brown animal, borrowed from the transport. In 1926 the Greys provided the drumhorse and four trumpeters for the Delhi Horse Show, all in full dress. The photo shows them in khaki service dress wearing red hackles in their helmets. The bandmaster is identifiable by his Sam Browne belt.
