Band in Service Dress 1937

This newspaper cutting is a photo of the Greys band wearing khaki service dress but with their bearskins instead of khaki forage caps. The red plumes have been removed. The white goatskin cap for the kettle rummer has been reintroduced and is worn by drummer Everson who is riding Lairdsburn, the horse that replaced Rex in 1936. The silver drums are uncovered. Everson's service dress is still the same as that worn after WW1; battledress was not introduced until 1939. The bandsmen all have a leather pouch attached to the front of the saddle with a badge on the front. The bandmaster does not have this pouch; he is riding next to the drummer, wearing officer-style khaki service dress with a Sam Browne belt. This reflects his warrant officer first class status, and we can see that there is a badge on his sleeve which would be a band badge.
