Drumhorse Lairdsburn 1938

In 1936 the unfortunate drumhorse Rex had to be shot after injuring himself so he was replaced by a 5 year-old Irish black gelding called Lairdsburn. He was named after the Burns and Laird Lines steamer that brought him from Ireland. This photo was taken in May 1938, probably in Guernsey where the Greys performed a musical ride. He made other high profile appearances at the Aldershot Tattoo, the Coronation of 1937, the Lord Mayor's Show of 1937, and the Royal Tournament of 1938. The drummer is Frederick Everson.
