Officer's Belt Plate 1802

This belt-plate features in Major Parkyn's book on Shoulder-Belt Plates and Buttons and he dates it about 1802. A miniature of a Scots Greys officer dated c1799 shows an oval gilt plate. This fine example is gilt with gilt mountings, and a red cloth backing to the thistle and rose design in the middle of the inscribed oval, also the Georgian crown. The lower device of St Andrew with cross is backed with blue cloth. This item was in auction at Wallis and Wallis in June 2015.
