H M King George VI


King George VI came to the throne on 11 Dec 1936 after his brother Edward VIII abdicated. He was appointed Colonel-in-Chief to 21 regiments on his accession, and 10 more after that, the Scots Greys being the last regiment, in June or July 1939. Before he became King he was already Colonel-in-Chief of 5 other regiments and Honorary Colonel of two others. He died on 6 Feb 1952.
