King's and Regimental Guidons 1766 & 1783

This page from Almack's History of the Scots Greys shows not only the King's and Regimental Guidons that were sold at Christies in 1992 but an extra Regimental Guidon. This guidon, the lowest of the three on the page, may be one of the guidons that replaced the 1766 guidons in 1783. But it is poorly designed compared with the other two, and the crown looks the wrong shape for the period. It is possible that it pre-dates the other guidons. The motto on a long scroll at the base reads NEC SUNT TIBI MARTE SECUNDI whereas the motto on the 1766 regimental guidon reads SECUNDUM NULLIS which is nearer to the modern motto of Nulli Secundus. The caption under the illustration says: 'Regimental Standards, the property of Capt D W Milne Home, of Widderburn, used by the Regiment during the service of his ancestor, Gen David Home of Wedderburn, who died 1809. Following this are brief descriptions of the three guidons which are self-explanatory apart from the fact that the top and bottom guidons are of dark blue silk and the centre guidon is rose-coloured silk. The caption does not mention the guidon belt on the left. It is presumed to be blue with gold embroidery.
