Klippan

This illustration shows A Squadron of the Greys under attack at Klippan. The supporting artillery were unable to fire more than a few rounds due to the speed of the Boer attack. Having used all their ammunition the Greys, finding themselves surrounded by superior numbers of enemy had to give up and accept defeat. The painting is inaccurate in depicting the firearms carried by the cavalrymen as carbines. These were relinquished in January 1901 and replaced with long infantry rifles.
