Officer's Victorian Sabretache

The date of this dress sabretache is not known for sure but it is thought to be later than the Victorian 'tache with straight sided lace. This type of lace has the same St Andrews Star with Thistle but is edged in steps. It was used for pouch-belts, and for that Russia braid was added to fill the gaps. A watercolour of a mounted Greys officer by Daubrawa dated 1846 shows the officer wearing a pouch-belt with this type of stepped lace, but his sabretache has the straight-sided lace. The full dress sabretache was discontinued before the Crimean War and did not re-appear when the uniform changes of 1855 came into effect.
