Sergeant-Major Bath

This photo was published in 'Regiment' c1900 but does not give the first name of Sergeant-Major Bath. He enlisted in the 2nd Battalion Somerset Light Infantry in September 1881, promoted to lance-corporal in 1883, and corporal in the same year. In 1885 he was a lance-sergeant and a full sergeant in 1886. He took part in the Burmese campaign of 1885-87 and was awarded a medal for distinguished conduct. He was promoted to regimental sergeant-major in 1894. The first medal on his chest would be the India Medal of 1849-95 which has a red and blue stripped ribbon and a clasp for BURMA 1885-7. The other one is the DCM, instituted in 1854, which has a red ribbon with a blue stripe down the middle.
