Order of the Dooranee

Shah Shoojah instituted an award called the Order of the Dooranee Empire which was presented to officers on 17 Sep 1839 at the Durbar in Kabul. It was in three classes like the Order of the Bath, with three levels of material value, but many officers felt aggrieved at their level of award.' William Dennie, the hero who led the storming party at Ghazni, was awarded a third class but refused to accept it, although Robert Sale accepted his second class award as can be seen in his portrait.
