Mohmand Field Force

This drawing by Melton Prior drawn from a photo taken by an RE sergeant was published in the Illustrated London News in Dec 1897. The caption says that this is Camp Uchajawar in the Nahaki Pass. This was probably the camp of the 2nd Brigade in the Mohmand Field Force who occupied the pass on 22 Sep 1879. The perimeter is partially lined with flour bags and biscuit boxes for defence and the camels can be seen sitting in a circle with their loads still on their backs. The small tents are for the Indian soldiers while the larger tents on the left are probably for officers or British soldiers.
