Officer's Shako Badge 1869-78

The shako for the period 1869 to 1878 changed very little, but the badge was made more decorative with a laurel wreath. It was the same height as the former badge, 3.25 ins, but appeared to take up more space. The officers of the 13th were allowed, along with the other light infantry regiments, to have their badge of the stringed bugle, and the mural crown with JELLALABAD on a scroll above. This was in silver on a black velvet backing inside the gilt badge. Other ranks had the brass cut-out 13 instead of this silver centre.
