Other Ranks Shako Badge 1815

The shape of the shako plate is similar to those worn by men of line infantry regiments but the rayed star was the badge worn before the 1st Guards became the Grenadier Guards. The middle of the star has the royal cypher of George III inside the Garter. This plate was worn on the Waterloo shako, so called because it had a short life, worn by many regiments around 1814/15. See Sergeant, Light Company 1815 and Private, Battalion Company 1815. The following year it was replaced by a bell-top shako.
