1st Battalion Colours c1870

The top Colour is the Regimental/Company Colour. The number in the canton indicates the 1st battalion. The device in the middle is Queen Victoria's crown and the 8th Company device of a Red Dragon of Cadwallader. The numeral VIII below this and the grenade. Battle honours had been displayed on colours since 1784.

The lower Colour is the Queen's Colour. There is Victoria's crown in the middle but not her cypher. The Queen's Colours of the 2nd and 3rd Battalion have the crown and cypher, only the 1st Battalion Colour has a crown and no cypher. The corner devices that were on the 1751 version are no longer here. The grenade is again in the lower part and the battle honours either side.
