Officer's Shoulder-Belt Plate 1830-43

This plain burnished gilt plate has a silver star with gilt centre. This star is from the coat of arms of the ancient and powerful Douglas family and is referred to in heraldic terms as a Mullet. The Mullet remained central to the badge of the Cameronians up until modern times. The Sphinx that feature on the previous belt-plate is not present on this one.
