Officers' Beltplate c1807

This beltplate was the last oval design before the rectangular type replaced it. The garter is inscribed ENNISKILLEN. The castle is the three turret version assigned to the regiment by William III but in 1804 the officer commanding the 1st battalion, Galbraith Lowry Cole, who later became Colonel of the regiment, changed the castle to that of the actual castle gate in Enniskillen. This had two pointed turrets. No examples of a beltplate showing this design have been found. In 1807 the regiment was ordered to return to the original three turret castle.
