Drummer 1780

The uniforms underwent changes in the 1768 warrant. Drummers still had reversed colour coats as per the 1751 regulations but regiments with white or buff facings were required to clothe their drummers and fifers in coats of white or buff coats with red waistcoats and breeches instead of white. In 1795 they changed these last items to white. The lace for the 31st changed from having a central green stripe to one stripe of mixed yellow and mid-blue, and a thin red stripe. The embroidered cloth mitre cap worn previously changed to a black bearskin cap with a metal plate at the front. This illustration shows the drummer in marching order with a fur knapsack. The haversack and water-bottle were hung from the right shoulder. His short sword is hung from a white leather waist-belt.
