Officer's Bonnet Badge 1860

This is a copper/gilt Sphinx inscribed EGYPT. It was worn on the black silk cockade on the side of the feather bonnet in dress uniform from 1860 onwards. The battle honour for Egypt was awarded on 6 July 1802 for their service against the French Revolutionary army in 1801. This was originally from the Arthur Strutt collection.
