Major Archibald Argyle Campbell


Archibald Argyle Campbell joined the 42nd as Lieutenant in 1791. He was promoted Captain in 1795 and fought in Egypt in 1801. By 1803 he was promoted Major and served with the regiment in the Peninsula with Sir John Moore from 1808-09.' He suffered in the retreat to Corunna and was the only officer of the regiment to die as a result. He died at Portsmouth when the regiment returned from Corunna in January 1809.'
