Lance-Corporal Alexander Thompson VC


Alexander Thompson was born in Edinburgh in 1824. During the Indian Mutiny he was part of the attacking force that besieged Fort Ruhya in Rohilicund on 15 April 1858. Lance-Corporal Thompson volunteered with others to retrieve the body of an officer who had been killed. This dangerous mission won three VCs. Thompson's award was gazetted on 27 May 1859. He died in Perth on 29 Mar 1880.
